The air carries salt. Humidity runs high year-round and doesn't stop when the AC does — plenty of these homes sit closed for months. Condo floor plans are tighter than mainland houses, and the walls you'd like to build against are often the ones you're not allowed to touch.
Cabinetry that ignores all that doesn't last. We build for the conditions the piece actually lives in.
Building for Coastal Conditions
Salt air and swinging humidity are hard on cabinetry. Doors that fit in January bind in August. Finishes that hold up inland chalk and fail near the water. Hardware corrodes from the inside of a closed cabinet.
What we do about it comes down to specification: materials chosen for dimensional stability rather than lowest cost, finishes rated for coastal exposure, and hardware specified for salt air instead of whatever ships with the box.
Working in Condo Buildings
Island condo work comes with a process that has nothing to do with woodworking. Most buildings require approval before anything begins. Many restrict working hours, elevator access, and how materials come in. Some limit installations to certain months entirely.We work within those rules — submitting what the association needs, scheduling around building restrictions, and getting materials up without holding the elevator hostage. Your neighbors shouldn't know we were there.
Small Spaces, Built to Fit
Island floor plans don't have room to waste. Galley kitchens, tight pantries, closets sized before anyone owned this much.That's where custom earns its cost. A stock cabinet run leaves dead space at every wall it doesn't quite meet — an inch here, three inches there, filler strips covering the difference. Built to the actual dimensions, those inches come back as storage.
